Conversational Prayer-Sonnets and Scriptures

February 2 ~

He who trusts his own promptings is a fool ... to draw near to listen is better than to offer the sacrifice of fools; for they do not know what they are doing ... therefore let your words be few. For a dream comes with much business, and a fool's voice with many words ... For when dreams increase, empty words grow many: but do you fear God ... For in him we live, and move, and have our being ... A man's mind plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps ...
Prov.28:26 (Jerus); Eccles.5:1,2,3,7 (RSV); Acts 17:28 (KJV); Prov.16:9 (RSV)

Somnambulists!

A dream ... a dream ... a dream Earth's people live ...
Somnambulists! They know not what they be
nor that they're moved by Thee: that Thou dost give
them impetus, are their sufficiency
and art, in all of them, whatever Light
they have. They b'lieve their light stems from within
and is their "own." They have no clear insight,
no yardstick to discern twixt Good and sin,
twixt Truth and lie within their troubled souls.
And, like a dreamer, they've no power to
resist, assess, get rid of, or control
the images and thoughts that form their view
of this domain in which they dwell. Thus they,
unless awakened, dream their lives away ...

The true light that enlightens every man ... was in the world ... yet the world knew him not ... "Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light" ... They are like a dream when one awakes, on awaking you despise their phantoms ... And thou, Lord, dost rise up and brush aside all their imaginings as a waking man his dream ...
Jn.1:9,10 (RSV); Eph.5:14 (RSV); Ps.73:20 (RSV,Knox).
