He who trusts in his own mind is a fool ... you must no longer live as the heathen (the Gentiles) do in their perverseness --
in the folly, vanity and emptiness of their souls and the futility --
of their minds ... with darkened understanding, estranged from the life of God ... we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves ... Seek the LORD ... Seek his face continually ... look for His presence continually ... the truth is in Jesus ...
Prov.28:26 (RSV); Eph.4:17 (Amp); 4:18 (Wil); Is.28:15 (KJV); Ps.105:4 (KJV,AAT,Har); Eph.4:20 (KJV)
Folly!
A fool am I, O Lord! The time I waste
by list'ning to my thoughts, by them embraced
-
their likes, dislikes, their vain imaginings,
opinions, daydreams -
follies! -
useless things:
their negative anticipations, fear,
false hopes -
whate'er comes to my inner ear.
What total waste! For I could seek Thy face
instead -
dwell in the peace of Thine embrace ...
Were it not for the Spirit's still small Voice
which somehow penetrates this psychic noise,
reminding me that Thou dost wait within,
I'd stay forever in the grip of sin.
For sin it is Thy Presence to not seek!
Remind me. Help me, Lord. I am so weak!

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ ... the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him ... And the LORD said ...
