Conversational Prayer-Sonnets and Scriptures

June 19 ~

This I say therefore, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God ... I am apprehensive that, somehow or other, as the serpent by his cunning deceived Eve, your thoughts may be turned aside from single-hearted devotion to Christ ...
Eph.4:17,18 (NAS); 2Cor.11:3 (Wil)

A Plea

I listen to my thoughts, Lord, much too much.
Swept off by them am I into daydreams,
dark apprehensions, futile godless streams ...
They flood my mind and take me out of touch
with Thee -- which is their goal: the foe’s prime means
to snare th’unwitting soul! And I am such
a simpleton! How great my need for Thee
to prod me when I’m caught, so I’ll break free
by looking to Thee for deliverance!
O hide me in Thy Presence, in Thy Rest ...
’Tis only there I’m safe: upon Thy breast!
Remind me to make this my constant stance!

To Thee bind me, O Lord, until we’re one.
Thou art my Vic’try. In Thee Life is won!

Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against ... the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places ... But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh ... walk in Him ... live in Him ... abide in Him ... thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ ... We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him and the evil one does not touch him ... No one who abides in Him sins ...
Eph.6:10-11,12 (NAS); Rom.13:14 (KJV); Col.2:6 (NAS,Beck); 1 Jn.2:28 (NAS); 1 Cor.15:57 (RSV); 1 Jn.5:18; 3:6 (NAS).
