August 4 ~

... while we were in the flesh, the sinful passions ... were at work in the members of our body ... I am of flesh, sold into bondage to sin ... I am doing the very thing I hate ... it is not I who do it; it is sin which has its home in me ... He that committeth sin is of the devil ... we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ ... thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory - making us conquerors - through our Lord Jesus Christ ...

'Tis from the flesh itself I must be cleansed.
On Thee, O Lord, for this my soul depends.
The method? Simply put: when angers come
or fear, annoyance - flesh! - to break free from
such things, I must not e'er identify
with them, e'en though they come as my own "I,"
as "Self." They are my foe. They're sin in me!
And I at once must hand them o'er to Thee.
E'en though they oft are huge and fill my soul,
they nonetheless aren't "mine." Thou art! My goal
is Thee: Thy Love, Joy, Peace: Thy Spirit-Fruit.
I must eschew whate'er won't follow suit,
and look to Thee by faith, Lord - instantly! -
and Thou wilt rise inside and set me free!
