398-page Inspiration Publication -- provided in a sturdy loose-leaf binder. (Inspiration Publishers is the publishing arm of Christ - The Better Way.) Suggested donation $29.50 (postpaid in the USA).

Especially for the believer who wants to press on toward union with the Lord -- toward maturity (or perfection) in Christ Jesus. Also serves as a Bible-study (or semester-long study) book. Highly illustrated with simple sketches and diagrams to help clarify the essence of the marvelous secret which has been opened to the Christian, which is "Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Col.2:27). The purpose of this Guidebook-Primer is to serve as a practical guide to moment-by-moment putting on of the Lord Jesus Christ as our Life: as the Source of the very thoughts and emotions by which we live. Its preamble contains the following statement:

Sooner or later ...

the committed Christian believer realizes that an old life and a New Life are within -- an old self and a New Self, an old nature and a New Nature (the Bible, in Galatians 5, calls them "the flesh" and "the Spirit") -- and that these two not only are utterly opposed to each other, but that the New Life now needs to become the believer's actual, daily Life. It needs to be "put on," if the believer wants to truly please God and, indeed, lead a truly worthwhile life in this strange world.

Before this time, such a believer likely has been caught up by, and largely ruled by, the thoughts and emotions of the old life - its anxieties, fretting, angers, selfishness, willful stubbornness and other unChristlike passions - believing them to be his or her "own." Now he or she wants to become freed from all such things - to become truly Christlike in thought, emotion, word and deed: to actually live in and by the Spirit of the Lord.

But ...

he or she hasn't known just how to go about doing this thing: how to truly be of the New Life in one's daily walk. The believer may have begun to try ... and try ... and try ... but just hasn't known how to escape from the old life and take up residence in the New.

It is for such believers, regardless of their age, and regardless of how long they have belonged to the Lord, that this Christ-The Better Way publication is intended. It is designed to serve both as a Guidebook to – and a Primer on – the Union Life: the blessed oneness with Him to which we all are called by our Lord.

Using simple sketches to help make its points,
the Guidebook stresses that the Christian life
is one of on-going choosing: that our Inmost Self
(our spirit) is our "Chooser," called by God
to exercise the faith we have been given to
choose, moment by moment, between the following
alternatives, remembering that in every case we are
choosing between the two beings pictured at left, choosing ...

between the Lord Jesus Christ
between our New Life
between our "True Me"
between our New Nature
between our New "I"
between our New Self
between the Right Spirit
between Truth
between Love
between the Fruit of the Spirit
between Light
between the Biblical
between right thoughts
between Godliness
between Righteousness
between warmth
between spirituality
between that which is above
between selflessness
between belief
between obedience to God
between Christlikeness
between Good
between Life
and Satan
and our old life
and our "old me"
and our old nature
and our old "I"
and our dead old self
and wrong spirits
and lie
and unlove
and the lusts of the flesh
and darkness
and the unbiblical
and wrong thoughts
and worldliness
and unrighteousness
and coldness
and carnality
and that which is below
and selfishness
and unbelief
and disobedience
and sin
and evil
and death

If there is a cardinal point that the Guidebook makes, it is that we cannot of our own selves escape from the right-hand column (above) and into the left, no matter how we wrestle with ourselves in order to be able to do so -- that the desired transformation comes as we turn from the unwanted things within and look by faith directly unto the Lord Jesus, Who is both our Deliverer and our New and True Life.
